Burkina Faso and Russia are set to hold their first Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Moscow on September 16, 2026, in a move expected to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
The meeting is expected to focus on key sectors including energy, agriculture, technology, pharmaceuticals, civilian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and industrial cooperation.
Energy is likely to feature prominently in the discussions, with Russia having proposed technical options to support the upgrading of Burkina Faso’s electricity grid.
The planned commission forms part of Burkina Faso’s broader efforts to diversify its economic partnerships while strengthening domestic production and technical capacity.
The discussions are also expected to explore opportunities for cooperation that could support industrial development, technological advancement and improved access to essential goods and services. The Moscow meeting signals a renewed push by Burkina Faso to expand its economic engagement beyond traditional partners and attract technical expertise and investment to support national development.
