The Project
The Lost Maestras is a project led by Mieruba Art Center dedicated to preserving, promoting and transmitting the female musical heritage of West Africa. Through the voices of eight major Malian women artists, the project documents ancestral traditions while creating contemporary works and building a lasting cultural and musical legacy.
Current Phase
The recordings are complete. The current phase focuses on finalizing the eight albums and preparing them for release and distribution through mixing, mastering, graphic design / artwork, and CD and vinyl reproduction rights.

Musical Heritage Documented
The recordings bring together Manding, Wassoulou, Songhai, Bambara, Bozo/Somono and Soninke repertoires. The project is at once a recording initiative, an archival undertaking and an act of transmission to future generations.

Funding Sought
Mieruba is seeking a financial partner to support the completion of The Lost Maestras and prepare all eight albums for release and distribution.
This support will directly contribute to the preservation, documentation and promotion of major female voices and repertoires from Mali’s musical heritage.
