The Ngbanye Youth Forum (NYF) has donated approximately 200 customised exercise books to the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund at the Jakpa Palace to support the educational initiatives of His Royal Majesty, the Yagbonwura, and provide learning materials to pupils in selected traditional schools across Damongo.
The donation, made on Saturday, August 29, forms part of the newly established youth organisation’s commitment to supporting education and contributing to the development of children and young people in Gonjaland.
The customised exercise books carry the photograph of the Yagbonwura alongside information about the Ngbanye Youth Forum. Beyond providing essential learning materials, the initiative is also intended to introduce the NYF to children and communities at the grassroots and create awareness of its identity, purpose and mission.
The National Steering Committee was received at the Jakpa Palace by the Coordinator of the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund, Mr. Habib Muftaw, popularly known as Mufti Borejinkpr, who welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Fund’s Board of Trustees.
The Fund formally received the exercise books on behalf of His Royal Majesty and expressed appreciation to the Forum for the gesture.
Speaking on behalf of the NYF, its Interim President, Mr. Sulemana Ishawu (PROF), described the donation as a modest but deliberate first step by the newly established organisation.
He noted that although education remains fundamental to the future of Gonjaland, some children continue to face basic challenges, including inadequate access to essential learning materials.
The exercise books are expected to benefit pupils in selected traditional schools in Damongo, including Jakpa, Yagbon, Kurabaso and Jafo Basic Schools.
The Forum said it hopes to expand the initiative into a sustained educational support programme covering basic schools across Gonjaland, with support from its members, individuals, organisations, traditional authorities and development partners.
NYF SEEKS TO CONNECT WITH GONJA GRASSROOTS
Beyond the immediate educational intervention, the donation forms part of a broader effort by the NYF to connect directly with the grassroots of Gonjaland and introduce younger generations to the organisation’s mission.
The Forum, which describes itself as a youth platform established specifically to bring Gonja youth together around the protection, promotion and development of the Gonja people and their heritage, believes its mission must be understood and embraced by young people who will eventually inherit responsibility for the development of Gonjaland.
The Forum therefore sees educational engagement as an important avenue for building that connection with the next generation.
NYF, YAGBONWURA’S FUND DISCUSS STEM AND TVET
During a discussion between the National Steering Committee and members of the Board of Trustees, participants also highlighted the need for Gonjaland to make deliberate and sustained investments in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The discussion recognised that the future development of Gonjaland will depend significantly on the ability of its young people to acquire scientific knowledge, technical competencies, practical skills and entrepreneurial capabilities.
The NYF believes stronger emphasis on STEM and TVET education will position young Gonjas to take advantage of employment opportunities, contribute to Ghana’s industrial transformation and participate meaningfully in sustainable development.
YAGBONWURA’S REPRESENTATIVE COMMENDS NYF
The former Biakuromwura, a member of the Board of Trustees and Spokesperson to His Royal Majesty, who spoke on behalf of the Yagbonwura and the Board, expressed profound appreciation to the Ngbanye Youth Forum for the gesture.
He commended the Forum for demonstrating an early commitment to education and the broader development of the Gonja people.
The Forum was also assured that the Board of Trustees would formally communicate the donation to His Royal Majesty, the Yagbonwura, while members of the NYF National Steering Committee would be invited to participate in the subsequent distribution of the exercise books to the beneficiary schools.
The Ngbanye Youth Forum expressed appreciation to Mr. Habib Muftaw and the entire Board of Trustees of the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund for the warm reception, acceptance of the donation on behalf of the Yagbonwura and constructive engagement with the Forum.
The Forum also acknowledged the presence and coverage of local media organisations, particularly Gonja Blogger and Savannah Icon.
For the NYF, however, the donation represents far more than 200 exercise books.
It is, the Forum says, an effort to plant a seed of hope, build a culture of educational support, connect with the grassroots and inspire a generation of young Gonjas to take ownership of the future of their homeland.
The Forum pledged to continue working with the Yagbonwura, traditional authorities, the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund, educational institutions, development partners, organisations and well-meaning Gonjas to promote education, strengthen STEM and TVET, preserve Gonja heritage and create meaningful opportunities for the next generation.
The NYF believes that every exercise book placed in the hands of a child is an investment in knowledge, every child inspired is an investment in the future, and every deliberate effort to educate young people is an investment in the continued development of Gonjaland.
