18 Years of Hope: Bahass Mental Home Thanks Public for Standing by People Living with Mental Illness

⏱ 3 min read

After 18 years of providing care, dignity and hope to people living with mental illness in the Upper West Region and beyond, Bahass Mental Home has expressed profound gratitude to the general public for sustaining its mission through years of challenges and uncertainty.

The home said its journey has not been easy, marked by periods of limited resources, exhaustion and uncertainty about how long it could continue. Yet, it noted that the generosity and compassion of individuals, families, organisations and well-wishers have remained a powerful source of encouragement.

In a heartfelt message to supporters, the management of Bahass Mental Home said every prayer, kind word, visit, donation of food and clothing, medication and financial contribution had helped keep the mission alive.

Today, I can confidently say that I did not get here alone. You brought me this far,” the message stated.

According to the home, the impact of public support extends far beyond the provision of material needs. Many of the people who have sought refuge and care at the facility, it said, arrived having lost contact with their families, hope and, in some cases, the belief that anyone still cared about them.

Through the continued support of the public, however, residents have been provided with food, healthcare, shelter, care, dignity and the reassurance that they have not been forgotten.

The home emphasised that while one individual may be the public face of its work, its achievements have been made possible by a wider community of compassionate people who have consistently refused to ignore the plight of people living with mental illness.

Behind every achievement at Bahass Mental Home is a community of compassionate people who refused to look away,” the message said.

The institution also used the occasion to remind the public that the work of supporting people living with mental illness cannot be sustained by one person or organisation alone.

After 18 years, I have learned one important lesson: you cannot carry a mission like this alone. I need you, and the people we serve need you,” it added.

Bahass Mental Home expressed appreciation to everyone who has contributed in cash or kind, prayed for the facility, encouraged its workers, shared its appeals, visited residents or stood by the institution during difficult periods.

The home prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon all its supporters, asking that their generosity be replenished and that their acts of kindness become a lasting source of blessings for their families.

It reaffirmed its commitment to the mission of restoring hope and dignity to some of the most vulnerable members of society.

Together, we will continue to give hope to the hopeless, a voice to the voiceless, and a home to the homeless,” the message concluded. Eighteen years on, Bahass Mental Home says it remains standing; not because the journey has been easy, but because a compassionate public has refused to look away.
