Holy Family SHS Appeals for Support to Tackle Infrastructure Challenges at Ghana-Burkina Faso Border

⏱ 3 min read

The Upper West Region school needs a perimeter fence wall, dormitory renovation, teachers’ quarters and a school bus as it pursues its ambition of becoming one of Ghana’s leading senior high schools.

Holy Family Senior High School is appealing to government, old students, businesses and philanthropists for support to address critical infrastructure gaps affecting its operations and long-term development.

Located at Hamile, near Ghana’s border with Burkina Faso, the school says it urgently needs a perimeter fence wall, renovation of its boys’ dormitory, teachers’ quarters and a school bus.

The appeal comes as the institution works towards its ambition of becoming a Grade A school, with improved academic facilities and a learning environment that attracts students from across the country.

According to the school, the absence of a fence wall raises security concerns, particularly for female students. Its boys’ dormitory is also reported to be in a deplorable condition, requiring urgent renovation to provide students with decent accommodation.

The lack of teachers’ quarters presents another challenge. Many staff members live far from campus, potentially affecting supervision and their availability to support students outside regular classroom hours.

The school also lacks a bus for educational excursions, sporting competitions and emergencies.

Security and student welfare a priority

Providing a secure campus is among the school’s immediate concerns.

A perimeter fence wall would help control access to school grounds and strengthen the protection of students and property. For a boarding institution, a safe environment is essential to student welfare and parents’ confidence.

Renovating the boys’ dormitory is equally important. Adequate residential facilities help students rest, study and prepare for lessons in conditions that support their education.

The school hopes that constructing teachers’ quarters would improve staff welfare and make it easier for teachers to provide supervision and guidance beyond scheduled lessons.

A school bus, meanwhile, would support educational trips, inter-school sporting activities and transportation during emergencies.

Ambition to become a school of choice

Beyond these immediate needs, Holy Family SHS is working towards a broader vision of academic excellence and moral discipline.

The school emphasises respect, neatness, strong moral values and reverence for God, alongside its commitment to quality teaching and holistic student development.

Its long-term plans include a well-equipped library, modern information and communication technology (ICT) laboratories and a green, serene campus conducive to learning.

However, achieving these ambitions will require investment in both essential infrastructure and academic resources.

A call to government, old students and philanthropists

Holy Family SHS is inviting the government, relevant education authorities, its alumni, non-governmental organisations, corporate institutions, philanthropists and other well-wishers to support its development.

Potential contributions could include funding for the fence wall and dormitory renovation, building materials, assistance with teachers’ accommodation or support towards acquiring a school bus.

The school is seeking collective action to address its immediate infrastructure needs while laying the foundation for sustained academic progress.

For old students and other partners, the appeal presents an opportunity to help improve conditions for current learners and strengthen the institution’s future.

Holy Family SHS believes that with the necessary support, it can build on its commitment to discipline and quality education and move closer to becoming a school of choice in Ghana.

Its message is clear: improving school infrastructure is an investment in student safety, teacher effectiveness and the future of young people at Ghana’s frontier.
