Former Member of Parliament for Damongo and Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, has commissioned an ultra-modern mosque in memory of his late father, describing the project as the fulfilment of a cherished vision and a lasting legacy of faith, knowledge and service to the people of Damongo.
The emotional commissioning ceremony brought together the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Lawyer Salisu Be-Awurbi, the Savannah Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Damongo Constituency Chairman, Chairman Trouble, NDC executives and members, traditional leaders, family members, friends and well-wishers.
For Hon. Mutawakilu, the occasion was more than the commissioning of a place of worship. It marked the fulfilment of a vision nurtured by his late father, who had dreamed of establishing a mosque that would serve as a centre for daily prayers, Islamic education and the sharing of knowledge.
Years after that vision was conceived, Hon. Mutawakilu said he was deeply honoured to see it become a reality and to dedicate the facility to his father’s memory.
“Today, I do not only commission a mosque. I honour the memory of a father, fulfil a promise, and contribute to a legacy that I pray will continue to serve generations yet unborn,” he said.
He explained that the mosque would serve the people of Damongo and surrounding communities as a place where Muslims could gather for worship, seek spiritual guidance and acquire Islamic knowledge.
He expressed the hope that every prayer offered within the mosque and every lesson taught there would become a source of continuous reward for his late father.
Hon. Mutawakilu also used the occasion to express his profound appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve as Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited.
He pledged to use his position to contribute to addressing the water challenges confronting his former constituency and the wider Damongo community.
“I will do everything possible to bring water to Damongo,” he assured the gathering.
The pledge adds a development dimension to his return to Damongo, where he previously served as Member of Parliament, as he seeks to leverage his current position at GWCL to support efforts towards improved and reliable potable water supply for residents.
Hon. Mutawakilu expressed gratitude to all those who attended the ceremony, particularly traditional leaders, political leaders, family members, friends and well-wishers whose presence, prayers and support made the occasion memorable.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to accept the mosque as Sadaqah Jariyah; a continuous charitable deed whose rewards endure; and to forgive his late father’s shortcomings, have mercy upon him and grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
He further expressed the hope that the mosque would remain a beacon of worship, Islamic knowledge, unity and blessings for the people of Damongo and beyond. For Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, the commissioning therefore represents both a deeply personal tribute to his late father and a public contribution to the spiritual and social life of the community he once represented in Parliament.
