The Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited, Hon. Adam Mutawakillu, joined traditional leaders, government officials and the people of Gonjaland at the historic Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Sunday, August 30, 2026, to celebrate the Yagbon Damba 2026.
The annual celebration brought together people from across the Gonja Kingdom and distinguished guests to commemorate the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage while reaffirming the bonds of unity, identity and solidarity among the Gonja people.
Hon. Mutawakillu was among the dignitaries who participated in the celebration, which continues to serve as an important platform for preserving Gonja traditions, values and cultural identity.
The event was graced by the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. Julius Debrah, who served as Special Guest of Honour, while the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, chaired the occasion.
Also in attendance were ministers of state, Members of Parliament from across the Savannah Region, traditional authorities and other distinguished guests.
A Celebration of Gonja Identity
For Hon. Mutawakillu, the Yagbon Damba represents more than an annual cultural gathering. It is a powerful expression of the unity, love, identity and enduring traditions of the Gonja people.
He said the celebration provided an opportunity for the people of Gonjaland to come together, reconnect with their shared heritage and strengthen the bonds that unite them as one people.
The annual celebration also highlighted the important role of traditional institutions in preserving Ghana’s diverse cultural heritage and transmitting indigenous customs, knowledge and values to younger generations.
The presence of senior government officials, political leaders, traditional authorities and corporate executives at the celebration further underscored the continuing importance of traditional institutions in Ghana’s national life.
Support for Traditional Institutions
Hon. Mutawakillu expressed his solidarity with the people of Gonjaland and called for continued efforts to promote and preserve the kingdom’s cultural heritage.
He also reaffirmed his respect for the Gonja traditional institution and extended his best wishes to His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bi-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom.
The Yagbon Damba 2026 celebration ended with renewed emphasis on unity, cultural preservation and the strengthening of relationships among the people of the Gonja Kingdom.
