Frustrated by the deteriorating condition of portions of the Nadowli–Jirapa–Nandom highway, the youth of Domwine have appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to provide them with chippings and bitumen, promising to mobilise themselves to fix the road.
The youth say they are prepared to provide the needed labour and community support if the Ministry can make the basic road construction materials available.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the poor condition of the highway, which serves as a critical link for communities and commercial transport within the Upper West Region and beyond.
The Nadowli–Jirapa–Nandom road forms part of the Techiman–Hamile highway, an important transport corridor that carries significant volumes of commercial and international traffic.
According to residents, more than 100 international vehicles use the corridor daily, yet substantial portions of the road remain untarred, creating difficulties for motorists and exposing communities along the route to dust, potholes and other hazards.
At Domwine, sections of the highway have become particularly challenging, with residents expressing concern that continued deterioration could undermine economic activity and road safety.
The youth are therefore urging the Ministry to respond to their proposal and support the community-led effort with the materials required to restore the affected portions. For the residents, the message is simple: if government provides the materials, they are ready to provide the hands to do the work.
