Nanung Regent Urges NIB to Establish Banking Presence in Bimbila

Regent seeks closer banking services for businesses and communities

BIMBILA, NORTHERN REGION — The Regent of the Nanumba Kingdom and Acting President of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, Nyalinbolgu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, has appealed to the National Investment Bank PLC (NIB) to establish a banking presence in Bimbila to improve access to financial services and support economic activity in the area.

The Regent made the appeal when he, accompanied by a member of the Nanumba Traditional Council, Alhaji Tijani, and his Personal Secretary, Dr. Rashid Mohammed, paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of NIB, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The visit was intended to formally congratulate Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria on his leadership of the bank and commend him for what the delegation described as transformational leadership and progress recorded under his stewardship.

During the engagement, Nyalinbolgu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana stressed the importance of bringing banking services closer to businesses, residents and communities in Bimbila, a major commercial centre in the Nanung traditional area.

Bimbila needs stronger financial access

The Regent said the establishment of an NIB presence in Bimbila would enable businesses and individuals to access banking services more conveniently, facilitate transactions and contribute to broader financial inclusion in the area.

He further assured NIB of the readiness of the traditional authorities and people of Bimbila to support the bank should it decide to establish operations in the town.

NIB considers feasibility study

Responding to the appeal, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria expressed appreciation to the Regent and his delegation and assured them that the request would receive serious consideration.

He acknowledged Bimbila’s importance as a commercial centre, noting that the town has considerable business potential that could support the bank’s operations.

The NIB Managing Director disclosed that the bank would deploy a team to Bimbila to undertake a feasibility assessment and examine the appropriate measures and requirements for establishing a presence in the area.

NIB pledges stronger partnership with Nanung

Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria reaffirmed NIB’s commitment to building a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with the Nanumba Traditional Council, the people of Bimbila and the wider community.

The proposed engagement is expected to deepen financial inclusion in the Nanung area while creating opportunities for businesses and residents to participate more effectively in the formal financial sector.
