GWL HOLDS PHASE II STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT FOR TAMALE–DAMONGO WATER SUPPLY PROJECT

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has successfully held Phase II institutional stakeholder engagement and consultation sessions for the proposed Tamale–Damongo Water Supply Project as part of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) processes.

The engagements brought together representatives from key government institutions, development partners, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to discuss the project’s implementation, environmental and social safeguards, land acquisition, and resettlement processes.

Speaking at the engagement, the Northern Regional Chief Manager of Ghana Water Limited, Ing. Rashid Braimah Soale, reaffirmed GWL’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply to communities. He emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration in ensuring the successful implementation of the project. Chief Manager for Lands and Estates, Surveyor Perpetua Asomani, briefed stakeholders on the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), assuring affected persons that all land acquisition and compensation processes would be conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with applicable laws and international standards. The consultations also provided stakeholders with the opportunity to make inputs and seek clarifications, reinforcing GWL’s commitment to transparency and inclusive development.

Upon completion, the Tamale–Damongo Water Supply Project is expected to provide safe and reliable drinking water to an estimated 1.5 million people, improving water security and supporting socio-economic development across the Northern and Savannah Regions.

Access to safe and reliable water remains one of the most pressing needs of communities across Ghana. Under the leadership of the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, significant efforts are underway to address the water supply challenges confronting Tamale, Damongo and surrounding communities, as well as many other parts of the country.
