Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention. It is obvious that most children have an interest in football and it is easy for them to learn even perceived difficult subjects with fun once one has an interest in soccer. In line with this, Professor Frimpong Manso, in the early 90s, started the invention of an indoor football game called FRINDO.

Rush to buy one for your school to see the positive change in the attitude of your students in seeming difficult Mathematics topics as well towards football.

The game focus on tapping into the interest of children in a football game as a unique educational tool; to grow their knowledge in mathematics; probability in a practical way, play and enjoy soccer at homes, in the field, schools, community centres, workplaces during lunch breaks and leisure hours.

As a unique educational tool, FRINDO comes along with avenues for quiz drill in all subjects and easy way of introducing probability concept in Mathematics to beginners in a more practical way.

Today, FRINDO has been improved too, include marketing souvenirs like FRINDO caps, jerseys, towels, plaques and pens as promotional gifts items.

At the launch ceremony at the Accra International Press Centre, former Youth and Sports Minister, Mr E.T Mensah, who launched the first-ever sports game, lauded Mr Frimpong Manso for working hard to achieve his long-term goal and advised the youth to learn from him and steadily create opportunities for themselves.

The chairperson of the launch, GOC President, Ben Nunoo Mensah, in his remarks at the occasion, congratulated the inventor and appealed to the media to help support and promote the product to be recognised all over the world.

The first Frindo soccer board game was purchased by the GOC President, Ben Nunoo Mensah, for his children’s school, Bishop Bowers at Laterbiokorshie, at an auction price of GHC5,000.

An executive member of JGA and Managing Editor of Ghanaian Times, Dave Agbenu, bought the second big board for GHC2,000 and donated it to the JGA and E.T. Mensah bought one for GHC1,000.

Mr J. Y. Frimpong-Manso was first inspired to invent Frindo Soccer Board Game by an injured talented soccer player in the olden days known as Baba Yala of the blessed memory.

He wondered if the paralyzed player would ever be able to enjoy soccer again, and it occurred to him that an indoor Board game version of soccer could be useful for this purpose. Intrigued by this idea, he began pondering for such a game.

In 1972, at his final year post-secondary teacher training course at Akrokerri, his English Methods teacher, Mr Chandler- a peace corps- instructed each student that since teachers are resourceful, they should come out with an indoor game that would be used by their pupils in case they are posted to a remote rural area where there will be no equipment and facility for outdoor games. The idea of Soccer Board game resurfaced. He was able to come out with the design that was used at his final teaching practice and proved successful.

He then created a success full prototype and has since been exhibited at a variety of trade shows. Copies of the Boardgame has also been donated to schools and charities for testing and the resulting comments were interesting and encouraging. Hence, its upgraded version ready for the World’s Board Game market.

It Can be used to:
