The National Cyber Security Centre, (NCSC) Ministry of Communications has observed Africa Safer Internet Day–2020 in Accra, today. (8/02/2020)

The event was themed: “TOGETHER FOR A BETTER INTERNET,” and focused on Ghana’s National Cyber Security Awareness Program christened: “Safer Digital Ghana”.

The celebration of the Africa Safer Internet Day, (ASID) sort to promote the safe and responsible use of internet especially by children and young people.

It also encouraged a national conversation on online safety for children, which is in line with Ghana’s National Cyber Security Awareness Programme aimed at promoting “A Safer Digital Ghana”.

Aside, it made contribution to a change in the mindset on the use of internet among children, young people, parents and educators.

And, it made attempt to educate children on the opportunity to engage with industry players to have a first-hand understanding on the use of the internet.

Today’s event drawn together about 500 school girls and boys from the Ablekuma West Municipality, Accra.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. George Cyril Blay, said safe internet usage was a necessity, and the campaign would help the municipality.

He said children were more susceptible to cyber crime, and the awareness creation was therefore appropriate for the municipality.

Hs said access to internet was crucial, and as a result, the municipality was working hard to promote it, yet there was the need as well to promote it’s safe usage.

He said almost every school in the municipality had a computer laboratory, and once the children were exposed to internet usage, it was critical  to education them on it’s safe usage.

The MCE said this was the very first time children in the municipality were getting such education.

There was float as part of the campaign, started and ended at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Dansoman.
