Multi-stakeholder Conference on food and feed aflatoxin draft policy is expected to end in Accra today (15/10/19).
The conference is to kick start talks on the action plan for the aflatoxin policy implementation.
CSIR-STEPRI, Dr. Rose Omari said, “Aflatoxin affects each and every one of us.”
Besides, when asked, she said aflatoxin could lead to cancers of the liver.
She said the baseline draft policy was formed through research across various sectors and through a similar conference in the past.
When asked, she said it was a common knowledge that Ghana was known to be good at policy drafts, but poor in their implementation.
But that this time around: ” This policy is coming with an implementation action plan and its implementation funding component to ensure the implementation process.”
She said when implemented the policy would help in improving the living condition of the small scale Ghanaian farmer.
She noted that marketing was a critical component of active agricultural activities and with aflatoxin presence in crops, it would be difficult to export them for foreign exchange.
The groups in the talk include the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA), the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) researchers and small scale farmer groups.
