This year’s Army week long celebration has been climaxed with a thanks giving service at the Burma Hall in Accra.
The theme for the thanks giving service was: “Ghana Army: Serving God and country.”
Long prayers were offered for the service men and women who attended in their numbers with their families and their civilian working counterparts.
The church service was also full of soul-touchinhg gospel musics by the Army band.
But, it was interesting to see both Islamic teachers and pastors preaching from the same pulpit to the men and women of both divides.
HE Umar Sanda Ahmed said “every service person is a man of God,” liking th force to the Biblical Israel, and that the service they rendered was “with Godly consciousness.”
“Take us away, and the will not be democracy and people will not be able to worship, ” he stressed. and went on: ” We have served in various places in the world to keep peace.” He emphasised.
HE Umar Sanda Ahmed went on “blessed are the peace makers, and we are the peace makers. ” he iterated, and that “our service is God centered and that it was not enough to read the Bible or the Qur’an. “
The program was under the distinguished patronage of Maj Gen Ayamdo, Chief of Army Staff.
Bishop Co.l William Jonfia (Rtd) emphasised the fact that intelligent and mechanical and physical training were key eliments to effective service in the Army.
He said the Ghana Army was very bold and discipline.
His sermon was based on “The beatitudes” which he drew from the Gospel according to Matthew
he said the main purpose of the message was to ensure that the soldiers were able service God as well as the country.
He likened the value of the Army metaphorically to that of the salt and the light of the world.
The Guest of Honour for the ceremony, referred to the theme of the religious parade, and went on that they carried out their task with the consciousness of a supreme being.
He encouraged the men and women to let their livese as to serv as worthy examples for others to emulate.
He asked the soldiers to be law abiding “simply put let the fear of God take lead in everything that you do.”
