The Ghana Maritime Authority has marked World Maritime Day with a clean-up exercise at the Independence Square in Accra today. (23/09/19)
Other collaborators in the clean-up exercise included the Women International Shipping Trading Association (WISTA Ghana), the Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) and the Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA).
The Chairperson of the West Africa Branch of ICS, Gertrude Adwoa Ohene-Asienim said the event was to creat awareness on clean beaches, and to attract tourists to the country. It was to ensure the diginity of Ghanaians as well.
The President of WISTA GH, Mrs. Jemilatu Jawula Mahamah said aside educating the public clean beaches and oceans, there was thr need for the country to stay consistently with the MARPOL Convention which is waring against pollution if seas and oceans. The Sustainable Developmental Goal 5 as well for safety of life below the sea.
She said Ghana should work line with the regulations to ensure safrty of the maritime ecosystem.
