Law-challenge, an educational quiz platform initiative aiming at strengthening, connecting within and between the laws in the Ghanaian society has been launched in Accra, on July 30, 2019.
The platform is also for promoting the legal education, and the business community and society, according to the project consultant, Rev. Moses Ansah- Barnor Ankrah.
He stated the objectives of legal-centered project such as generating competitive spirit among the law facilities, shaping the destiny of the students of law towards the making of lawyers with integrity, bringing the study of law to the door steps of the ordinary Ghanaian.
The rest of the objectives were creating public awareness on the importance of law in developing nations, serving as a resource tool avenue for law students, raising the level of citizens’ compliance to various aspects of the laws governing the country, and spreading the awareness of various laws and landmark verdicts, ruling and Judgments of the judiciary.
He said the competition would be in three stages: preliminary, semifinal and grand final, 12 faculties will compete in the preliminary stage of the competition, nine faculties will qualify for the semi- final stage and three finalists will battle it out in the grand final. The grand final will comprise a quiz competition and a mock court session.
And winners of the challenge with support from the project organizers will provide legal aid services to support pro bono clinics or deprived charities.
And for the prizes and awards; the winner will get a trophy, cash prize, laptop, assorted educational materials, the first runner will take way a first-runner- up plaque, some cash, and some assorted educational materials. The second runner will get a second-runner-up plaque, some cash, and some assorted educational materials. And a certificate of participation will be provided to every participant.
He said the competition was opened to student teams from universities and law faculties across the country. And areas of law to be considered in the competition included the constitutional law, the criminal law, the law of torts, the legal systems, the law of contract, the equity and succession law, the law of immovable property, the company law, the jurisprudence law, the commercial law, the civic education.
“The organizing team is assuring all participants of a fair and equitable playing field during the competition bearing in mind the varying academic calendar of each university,” xxx assured.
According the Minister of State in charge of tertiary education, Professor Kwasi Yankah law has been has demystified, and it now “in every man, law has been in news almost every day, law of Ghana has lost monopoly.”
