Stakeholders in the book writing and publishing industry have launched the 16th Ghana International Book Fair (GIBF) at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra a fortnight ago.
The 16th GIBF is happen from August 30-September 2, 2018 in Accra.
To this point, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, who also played chaired the occasion, Mr. Mohammed Adjai Sowah described the occasion as global promotion of the city of Accra.
“I pledge my full support to GIBF to be hosted in Accra, I will be actively involve in the process” the CEO stressed.
He stated that without books, free education, one of the government’s flagship programme implementations last year could not be completed.
He challenged the stakeholders to catch up with growing technology such as the smartphone and computer-tablet in the international book publishing industry.
He said notwithstanding the advancing digital system, it was still source of pride for one to buy and a hold in hand hard copy of a book for reading.
He regretted at fast dissipating level of rich intellectual discourse driven by reading books rather making way for foot-soldiers of political parties to take over such even in issues of climate change.
In a similar manner he stated that the educational system was on study-to-pass-exams sacrificing solution finding to situations affect the people– misplaced priority.
And so come the launching date, August 30-September 2, 2018; there would beat awards, seminar on copy wright, and forum on right and licensing, and interesting programs for children.
