The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed has delegated his Special Aide, Mr. Abdul-Rahaman Alidu to represent the region in a three weeks Agriculture Investment Seminar in China.
The Minister charged the Aide to lure investors from China to the North to invest in the agricultural sector.
Mr. Abdul-Rahaman Alidu who is an Agricultural Economist told a section of the media in Tamale that with his expertise and lobbying skills, he would ensure that the Northern region get the best out of the seminar.
He said that the agricultural sector in the region needs massive support to make it attractive and lucrative.
According to Mr. Alidu, there was the need for the sector to have more rice processing factories, vegetable and fruit processing factories to reduce post harvest loses. He said that with the modern trend of events, the agricultural sector also required more machinery such as planters, combine harvesters, tractors, irrigation systems and storage facilities.
He is therefore hopeful that the the investment seminar would open the opportunities for Ghana and for that matter the Northern Region to attract the needed investments.
The Agriculture Investment Seminar in China is under the auspices of the China’s Foreign Economic Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture.
A highly government delegation compose of a team from the Ministry for Special Development Initiatives, Office of the Vice President, Aid to the Northern Regional Minister, and members from the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) is expected to visit China for the three weeks seminar.
The delegation whilst in China is expected to visit five cities in the country. They include; Beijing, Yinchuan, Helan, Lingwu and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Regions in that country.
Whilst in Ningxia Hui Autonomous region, they will visit some agricultural investment projects; participate in ‘China-Arab States Expo’ and the Ningxia Agricultural International Cooperation Investment fair.
They are also expected to carry out Economic and Trade negotiations with some potential and relevant agricultural departments and enterprises in China.
The Special Aide of the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Abdul-Rahaman Alidu said his participation is to represent the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Salifu Saeed together with a team of agricultural experts. He noted the seminar is a platform to expose the team to a wide range of agriculture issues in the world. Mr Alidu said that it was for them to learn some of the best practices across the world and replicate same in the Northern region and Ghana.
“There is going to be an investment fair where the team will be given the platform to exhibit or to tell the potentials of the region or the country to the many investors and we will make sure we press home a lot of agricultural investment projects”.
He said that the Northern region had a vast land suitable for agricultural development. In fact, rice is something that is dear to my boss’s heart and the Bagre Dam is also a source of worry to my boss and he is always keen to bringing investors to harness the water that has always been pushed from Burkina Faso to the country to cause havoc, so there are a lot of discussions that we will have in China to take advantage of water, ” he stated.
